"Women have to do everything that a man does,
but backwards and in high heels!"
--Ginger Rogers

Heather and Damon posing at the Swing Video Shoot I absolutely love to dance; the more I become involved with it the more I can't imagine my life - any life at all - without dancing in it.

Three years ago if someone had told me I'd say something like that I'd have laughed them right out of the room. I generally regard myself as a complete and utter klutz. But a bunch of my Renaissance Faire friends went to local Victorian balls (called "Ye Gaskells Occassional Balls") and encouraged me to attend. I went, but mostly because I wanted to see the ballgowns. The Viennese waltz is definitely one of the most romantic dances ever done. As soon as I stepped out on to the floor the movement of the couples around me mesmerized me, and the beautiful scene made me feel as though I were being swept off my feet in the transformative scene of a classic movie... I was hooked!

In October I got involved with the local SF swing scene because a friend of mine was in a band, and I've always liked big band music. This February I was lucky enough to take a workshop on Lindy Hop with Frankie Manning, one of the original dancers at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem in the 30s. He is one of the most amazing people I've ever had the privilege to meet! I was also able to attend this year's Swing Camp Catalina, which was a truly amazing experience.. instructors from around the globe!
